Mohamed Salah was named to the bench for Liverpool's Premier League match at Anfield against Leicester City.
Jurgen Klopp has explained his decision not to start Mohamed Salah against Leicester City in the Premier League.
The Reds returned to league action this evening, hosting Leicester City at Anfield, but Salah was not in the starting lineup.
Salah returned to Merseyside on Tuesday after representing Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Sadio Mane was also in the final on Sunday, but Senegal's victory gave him more time to enjoy the festivities.
Klopp chose not to start Salah against Leicester, instead giving Premier League debut to new striker Luis Diaz.
Klopp explained his decision not to start Salah and the Egyptian's reaction to being benched ahead of the game.
"It wasn't his decision; it was mine," Klopp told BT Sport. "But he took it completely normally and was fine; he understood everything completely." Mo isn't here as a passenger or to be a tourist; he's here to contribute, and he'll definitely come on." But, after a massive tournament, four times 120 minutes - come on, we have to think a little bit.
