Jurgen Klopp is pressuring Liverpool to offer James Milner a new deal, which would bring his Premier League career to a close after 20 years.

The Reds manager wants Milner to extend his contract at Anfield, and the 36-year-old is awaiting a formal offer before making a decision.

When his current term ends at the end of the season, the former England midfielder, who made his Leeds debut in November 2002 at the age of 16, will be forced to choose between extending his seven-year stay at Anfield or finding another club where he can play more regularly.

'We'll have a conversation with Milly.' 'We'll see,' Klopp said.

‘He has no intention of retiring next year.' He's desperate to keep playing. That's something I'm aware of.' Because life after football is far longer than your career, it makes sense to continue playing as long as possible; it is better than doing something else.' Milly will be alright after his career, but he clearly enjoys what he is doing, and he will surely play football next year.'

Milner has been dubbed the best free transfer in Premier League history, having won both the Premier League and the Champions League for Liverpool since joining from Manchester City, and is a key figure in the dressing room. When he retires, he is expected to take up a future coaching post at Anfield, but he has further playing ambitions and might make a sentimental return to Elland Road, where he replaced Wayne Rooney as the Premier League's youngest scorer before James Vaughan broke the record.

He's played in 23 Liverpool games this season, although Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Curt Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and Harvey Elliott are all vying for his preferred midfield slot.
