Six policemen have been detained by the police for their participation in a conflict between Lamashegu's youth and the police on Sunday.

This comes after a preliminary inquiry into the fight, which has so far taken one life and wounded several others.

A young man who was being sought by the police is said to have run inside the Lamashe-palace Naa's to avoid being arrested by security agents, causing the commotion.

AdomNews/JoyNews Six police officers have been arrested in connection with the shooting in Lamashegu.

The kids threw rocks at the officers, who responded by firing bullets to disperse the mob.

The occurrence was termed regrettable by the Tamale Divisional Command.

Chief Superintendent George Yeboah Afari, the Divisional Police Commander, said the police were investigating the situation.

It's unfortunate, to say the least. We were all aware of the Vice President's arrival, so I was out in the Tolon District when word came that a policeman was being attacked at the Lamashe-Naa palace. "

"When we arrived, there was too much of a gathering, and my response was not encouraging, not from the chief or his elders, but from the young." He recalled, "I immediately phoned the patrol squad, FPU, and they came and hauled all of us to the Regional Police Headquarters."

He also said that a 24-year-old man is fighting for his life at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after being struck in the hip by a bullet.
