According to Cocobod, John Agyekum Kufour of Darbah in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District was the one who started the national chocolate day.

As a result, it was decided to hold this year's National Chocolate Day celebrations in the area.

Naa Adwoa Dokuah, a member of COCOBOD's board of directors, noted that domestic chocolate consumption has increased significantly, particularly on National Chocolate Day, which falls on the 14th of February every year.

"The concept for a national chocolate day celebration was conceived by former tourism minister Jake Obetsebi Lamptey during the presidency of ex-President John Agyekum Kufour in 2005, and this is an occasion to pay tribute to the president in his birthplace."

"We thought it would be appropriate to share some chocolates with the youngsters in the rural areas," she said. "Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana" is the theme for this year's festival.

The Ashanti Regional Cocobod Administrator, William Kwaku Siriboe Prempeh, stated that the celebration has enhanced the chocolate business for the previous 17 years.

"We might have gone somewhere else, but this is a chance to honor the former president." Unfortunately, in Africa, the dead are revered more than the living, but I believe now is the moment to honor him for his contributions to the country.

Since the establishment of Chocolate Day, the financial implication, source of revenue, and rise in chocolate awareness has increased, and it has provided additional revenue to most of the companies that process cocoa beans into chocolate, so it has been helpful," he added.

COCOBOD intends to expand the number of schools that will benefit from the program.
