President Akufo-Addo underlined the importance of Ghanaians supporting the passage of the Electronic Transaction Levy on Wednesday (e-levy).
"Let's support the government's income mobilization drive; let's support the e-levy," the President said on Twitter. #ELevyForDevelopment.â€
He also posted a video to persuade Ghanaians that the levy's proceeds will be utilized, among other things, to create work chances for the country's unemployed.
In the video, a man named Francis describes how he graduated from Takoradi Technical University but has been unable to find work for the past five years. Francis grabs his Play Station 5 while telling his incident.
He goes on to say that the government must earn revenue in order to create jobs. As a result, Francis urged all Ghanaians to embrace the e-levy effort.
"My friends and I are excited about the new YouStart possibility to start our own businesses and hire others." Our youth require employment. To create jobs, the government requires revenue. Let's make revenue mobilization a priority. Let us rally behind the e-levy. "An electronic levy for development."
