Some men in the Appiatse community have complained of sexual weakness as a result of the explosion on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Aside from sexual dysfunction, the males claimed they were not feeling "morning wood," also known as Nocturnal Penile Tumescence (NPT).

For many boys and men, NPT is a common occurrence. Men may occasionally wake up with an erect penis. NPT is more common in younger men, though it can affect men of any age. It's the body's reaction to one of several natural occurrences.

Dr Mrs Sandra Thompson-Assan, a Counseling Psychologist and leader of a team that was deployed to Appiatse to give victims with assistance, spoke to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.

PFA (Psychological First Aid) is a technique for preventing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Its purpose is to assist victims in being well-informed about the linked and predicted aberrant behaviors that occur as a result of traumatic exposures, as well as to help them build resilience.

It aids the therapist in identifying trauma victims who require more assessment and intervention.

Following the concerns, the team asked the camp nurses and medical officers to do more assessments and intervene, according to Dr Mrs Thompson-Assan.

She stated that after analyzing over 876 individuals, they discovered that the majority of them suffered from disaster flashbacks, anxious dreams, insomnia, anxiety, abnormal thinking patterns, and hearing issues, among other things.

Dr. Mrs. Thompson-Assan stated that in addition to offering PFA to victims, they also assisted people who had misplaced crucial cards such as driver's licenses.

"Another gentleman was scheduled for an interview at Tarkwa but had lost his certificate as a result of the explosion, which was going to make it difficult for him to secure the job." We contacted police officers at the camp, who encouraged him to submit a police report to the Ghana Education Service in order to have his certificate replaced in time for the interview."

"A call to Dr. Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Chief Executive for the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality, was effective in assisting senior high school pupils in need of financial assistance. "The MCE also helped a young lady who had misplaced her sewing machine," she added.

Dr. Mrs. Thompson-Assan said they worked with NADMO to get humanitarian materials to people who weren't on the radar.
