Speaker of the Eighth Parliament, Rt. Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has sent a strong and hold message to cousin of the President and Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The Speaker directed the message through the two deputy Ministers who are both MPs on the floor to be delivered to the Minister. Alban Bagbin revealed that Ghana's judgement debts have been ballooning and that he isn't ready to help cook more debts to plunge the scarce resources of the country into the pits.
He disclosed that his personal calls to the Finance Minister to write officially to the Speaker's office attaching the number of agreements the ministry has entered into with various agencies has been an exercise in futility.
"Personally, I have called the Ministry of Finance personally countless times and we are not getting any response from them. I am ignorant of the legal implications and I do not want to be a subject of criminal investigations after my tenure of office".
The Rt. Honourable Bagbin narrated that he requires the Ministry to write to his office because it's a constitutional requirement and Parliament only deals with the government and not the agencies. He added that Parliament cannot depend on documents from the agencies.
He advised that the necessary things are done as soon as possible.
