The National Service Scheme has begun implementing a new approach to provide more service personnel with skills and hands-on entrepreneurship training, preparing them for the job market or allowing them to start their own businesses after one year.

The plan, which is a big boost to the government's job creation agenda, also includes the launch of a computerized job platform that will integrate all completing individuals and match their skillsets to enterprises that require their services.

'Deployment for Employment' policy implemented by NSS - Osei Assibey

Mr Osei Asibbey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), who made the announcement at a stakeholder conference in Accra today, said the scheme is now coordinating with several user agencies to ensure that a sufficient number of people are enrolled.

The conference's theme was "Strengthening GNAA Database Through Digitization for Efficient Deployment," which drew over 300 principals and registrars from both public and private tertiary educational institutions.

Mr. Osei Assibey explained that the deployment drive fit into the organization's new goal of not only deploying employees but also ensuring that they become self-employed, offering jobs to others, or be ready for employment under the broader "Deployment for Employment" program.

Already, the project has forged partnerships with a number of tertiary institutions and corporate entities, resulting in the creation of a number of models, including real estate development, computer applications, and software development, to name a few.

Pathways to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) Project Ghana Tech Lab (GTL), which is currently training a lot of service personnel in mobile app and website building skills; Venture Building Program, which is grooming Service Personnel with entrepreneurship skills throughout the service year; and GNSS are some of the models for training and employment.

GNSS/Ghana Enterprises Agency for the training of personnel in entrepreneurship and the provision of support in various business fields in Ghana; the Stanbic Graduate Transition Support Program (GTSP), which is currently providing a sustainable financial support system for National Service Personnel in the aforementioned.
