Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, has urged his constituents and Ghanaians in general to transfer networks if the one to which they are currently enrolled deducts excessive costs on their Mobile Money (MoMo) transactions.

In Koforidua on Monday, February 14, 2022, the Parliamentarian engaged market women and taxi drivers in a discussion about the e-levy as part of an effort to clarify the reasons for the levy.

Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi indicated during the interaction that anyone who believes MTN deducts too much on MoMo transactions should move to Vodafone once the E-Levy is implemented.

"You are the one who is responsible for paying the levy." So, if you send GHS200 to your child through OPASS, you will not be charged tax on the first GHS100. As a result, the first hundred cedis are free. You'll pay the e-levy on the remaining GHS100. The person who sends is also the person who will pay the fee.

"Your child who is getting benefits will not be required to pay anything. Ghana has a large number of telecommunications firms. MTN, Vodafone, and Airtel Tigo are all available. MTN charges, however Vodafone does not, therefore if you think MTN is charging too much, switch to Vodafone. "It's that simple," the New Juaben South MP stated, according to Star News.

He informed market women and drivers that if Ghanaians do not embrace the E-Levy, the government may be compelled to terminate the free Senior High School project which will, in turn, damage school pupils.

"If we don't pay the E-levy and go to the World Bank or the IMF for loans, they will ask Akufo-Addo to revoke the free SHS, which will damage your children," Michael Okyere Baafi explained.

While the Minority in Parliament has remained steadfast in its opposition to the E-Levy, the administration is pressuring the Majority to pass the levy at any costs.
