Kylian Mbappe is considering a new offer from Paris Saint-Germain that would make him the highest-paid player in the world.

The French club recognizes the importance of the 23-year-old to their project, as possibly the best player in the world for the next decade, and are willing to offer a contract unprecedented in the game.

According to the Independent, PSG would pay him a base salary far in excess of Ł500,000, and closer to Ł1 million per week. Real Madrid, Mbappe's preferred destination, would be unable to compete with such a bid.

Some members of Mbappe's family and entourage had appointments with PSG on Wednesday, the day after his match-winning performance against the Spanish club. The staleness of the Madrid team in comparison to PSG was mentioned during that meeting. Florentino Perez, president of the Bernabeu, who was "furious" with the nature of his team's performance and considered replacing Caro Ancelotti with PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, is currently banking on Mbappe to re-ignite the entire club.

However, nothing has been signed with Madrid as of yet, and the player and his camp are at least open to considering PSG's offer. His contract expires this summer, and he could already sign with another club, but he has thus far kept his options open.

Mbappe has been enthralled by the prospect of joining a club like Real Madrid, as Cristiano Ronaldo is one of his idols. The Bernabeu hierarchy is hoping that the player's emotional desire to be a part of such a "legacy," but Mbappe is also aware of the importance of maximizing his talent in terms of trophies. Given Spain's current economic crisis, which pushed Madrid to spearhead the Super League project, Spanish football may not be as conducive to that.

At the same time, such a large contract offer – by far the largest in football history – is an important part of the Qatari project at PSG, as they intend to put themselves in a position where only a few clubs can compete with them.

The situation may, however, influence other moves and potentially reduce the offer for Paul Pogba, who can also leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer. PSG were willing to pay Pogba up to €600,000 (Ł500,000) per week, but this was due in part to their desire for a French – preferably Parisian – star at the heart of their team.
