According to the Daily Star, Romelu Lukaku now has a strange record that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel isn't particularly proud of.
After a successful spell in the Club World Cup triumph, fans hoped that Lukaku had moved on from his agony and was back to his best. However, the Blues striker's night at Selhurst Park turned out to be a humiliating one.
Lukaku played the entire 90-minute match between Chelsea and Crystal Palace yesterday. However, according to OptaStats, he only touched the ball seven times in the entire game, one of which came from kick-off, setting a new record in the Premier League since the stats began to be recorded.
The ex-Inter Milan man has only five goals in the Premier League and is clearly struggling to find his feet again. Even Thomas Tuchel did not defend him after seeing his performance against Palace.
What comes next for Lukaku?
In the post-match press conference, the German manager appeared to be at a loss for words when asked about the record. He agreed that the Belgian striker had little impact on the game and that his absence did not reflect poorly on the other players.
"I'm not sure I have a good response to the question." I'm not sure what it says, but he was obviously not involved and couldn't make a point. I'm not sure what it says much about us in general.”
