TRANSPORT FARES GO UP BY 15% EFFECTIVE SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26

Transport operators within the nation have concurred to alter admissions by 15 per cent, starting Saturday, February 26, 2022.



They concluded transactions on the increment after a marathon assembly on Monday.


The increment will influence shared taxis, intra-city prevalently known as ‘trotro’ and intercity transport.


The drivers say the climb has been required by the increment within the cost of fuel and the financial hardship the nation is confronting, which has influenced their work.



Part of the Communication Group of the Ghana Private Streets Transport Union (GPRTU), Samuel Amoah, encouraged the open to participate with the drivers to execute the unused charges effectively.


“After long considerations and dialogs, the conclusion was that transport operators have been given 15 per cent upward alteration of transport passages, and the assention is that this increment is taking impact right from Saturday, February 26, 2022.”


“We are encouraging all commuters to go entirely by this mandate from the Service and the transport operators. Right now, the affirmed transport passage is the one with the 15 per cent increment since that’s what we have concurred upon,” he said.



The transport unions have proposed a 30 per cent upward alteration, but after a assembly with stakeholders on Monday, they concurred to extend the admissions by 15 per cent.


Over the past few weeks, there has been a steady increment within the cost of fuel at the pumps, a circumstance numerous drivers have depicted as uncaring.
