For the time being, the University Teachers' Association of Ghana (UTAG) has decided to put its strike on hold. This came after UTAG's National Executive Committee held an emergency meeting on Monday to assess the strike's progress.Meetings between UTAG's leadership, Parliament's Education Committee, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Education Minister, and the Labour Minister had concluded inconclusively the week before.UTAG wants the government to reinstate the 2012 service conditions that set the monthly salary for entry-level academics at $2,084.The association claims that the new agreement has decreased the basic rate for its members to $997.84.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Sam Jonah, and a number of Vice-Chancellors, among others, have spoken out in support of the professors' return to the classroom.Students, on the other hand, are encouraged by today's decision, as their academic work is scheduled to begin soon.According to the statement, "UTAG has agreed to respect the recommendations of prominent leaders, the Select Committee on Education, and the court judgment to cease our strike action."According to reports, the ruling will be in effect until March 4, at which point a favorable solution will have been attained through additional interaction.

The declaration, issued by UTAG's National President, Prof. Solomon Nunoo, also stated that the Association and the government had agreed on a path."Negotiations will begin in earnest and be finished within the agreed period and conclusion," says the statement.Meanwhile, "the legal proceedings presently before the Court on the legality or otherwise of our strike action will continue to their logical conclusion."Following an appeal by the National Labour Commission, the Court issued an interlocutory injunction against UTAG's industrial action on February 15. (NLC).After unsuccessful attempts to persuade UTAG to call off its strike, the NLC took the union to court.Since January 10, 2022, UTAG has been on strike since the government has failed to assess their working conditions since 2017.Students are still suffering.
