HIGH COURT SETS MARCH 28 TO RULE ON SOSU-IGP CASE

The Accra High Court's Human Rights Division has set a date to rule on an interlocutory injunction sought by Francis-Xavier Sosu, a Member of Parliament for the Madina seat.According to the Court, it will rule on March 28 in a case in which the legislator claims that the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare, unjustly arrested him.Her Ladyship, Mrs. Barbara Tetteh Charway, who ruled over the matter in court, revealed this on Monday.Evelyn Vuvor, who represented the IGP's lawyers in this case, indicated that the case's lead lawyer is now on assignment. As a result, she urged the court to postpone the hearing until the IGP's counsel returned.

Francis-Xavier Sosu, a human rights lawyer who led his people in the #FixOurRoads demonstration, has fought multiple efforts by the police to apprehend him on allegations of highway blockage and destruction of public property. On November 16, 2021, the MP filed a human rights complaint against Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, for attempting to arrest him. According to the police, irate demonstrators barricaded the Ayi-Mensah – Danfa route on October 25 last year, burning tyres and impeding traffic. Attempts to arrest the politician, however, have been unsuccessful, with Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin stepping in to protect him. The legislator has been on parliamentary responsibilities, according to the Speaker, and therefore

The legislator was on parliamentary business, according to the Speaker, and so possessed parliamentary immunity even while protesting. As a result, he refused to help the police apprehend the Madina MP.


As a result, the Madina MP filed a human rights action according to Article 33 of the 1992 Constitution and Order 67 of the High Court (Civil Procedures) Rules, C. I 4 for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights after returning from a trip outside the country on parliamentary business. On November 16, 2021, something occurred.
