Zinedine Zidane is reportedly considering raiding his former clubs Real Madrid and Manchester United as the PSG position remains a mystery. The former Real Madrid coach has recently been connected with PSG, with current PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino being linked with the Manchester United manager's post.
According to El Nacional, if Zidane is given the job at PSG, he may try to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who is out of contract next summer. Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's contract at Old Trafford expires in June, and Zidane could sign him. If Kylian Mbappe leaves for Real Madrid this summer, Zidane feels Benzema can bring the best out of Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., according to the source.
Since star Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus in 2018, Benzema, 34, has been crucial for the La Liga leaders. With 148 appearances for Lyon and 66 goals, the France international is no stranger to Ligue 1.
The Manchester United midfielder's contract expires at the end of the season, sparking interest in Benzema's French national teammate Pogba. According to reports, Pogba will not be staying at Old Trafford. Even if Zidane does not arrive as manager, he is said to be exploring his options, with a transfer to the Parisians being strongly promoted.
Would Karim Benzema of Real Madrid and Paul Pogba of Manchester United be good signings for PSG?
Last summer, PSG had a massive transfer window. They brought in some of Europe's best players, including Lionel Messi of Barcelona, Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid, and AC Milan's dazzling number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.
With such signings, the desire to pursue more elite talent appears to be superfluous, as their troubles lie in their inability to bring in the players they require. Benzema and Pogba, on the other hand, would bring a wealth of experience to the club. During his stint at Real Madrid, Benzema has won four UEFA Champions League titles. Benzema would be an ideal replacement for Mbappe if he were to leave for Los Blancos. He not only scores goals, but he also involves his teammates in the game, and Benzema's hold-up play is unrivalled.
Pogba, on the other hand, would be a valuable addition to the midfield, where the club currently lacks balance.
Despite the fact that the Ligue 1 leaders dominated midfield versus Madrid in their UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg match at the Parc des Princes, Marco Veratti's contributions were crucial. PSG, on the other hand, is prone to being overrun in the midfield. Idrissa Gueye and Danilo, for example, have yet to establish themselves as reliable Verratti partners.
Since his free transfer from Liverpool in the summer, Georginio Wijnaldum has been a disappointment. So, if the club can get rid of some dead weight in midfield, Pogba's coming would be a wise investment.
