Does water expires? What happens when you drink expired water?
If we are being honest with ourselves, checking the expiry date of water is one thing we almost never do. Yet, on every bottle of water there’s an expiry date.
Most people also assume water doesn’t spoil so there’s no such thing as ‘expired water’.
Honestly there isn’t, but the package can expire! Yes, the expiry date isn’t for the water but the package ; be it bottle or sachet.
When water is left in a bottle for a long time, it begins to serve as a ground for bacteria and algae. This is because plastic isn’t impermeable meaning it’s slightly porous. Therefore bacteria can penetrate even if it’s closed.
So leaving water for a long time in a bottle could actually be a bit contaminated.
The health implications if you drink any expired water is not too bad, or at least not the type that can cause serious damage to your system .
But it still doesn’t make it safe for drinking.
There are ways to go about it though;
You can boil the water: Boil the water before drinking.This will kill all the bacteria and other harmful things living in it.
Secondly, in order to avoid this, simply change the bottle of the water if you know it will take a long time before you drink it.
Best of all, check the expiry date of any water you buy.
And buy limited quantity of water in order to finish drinking it before it expires.
I hope you find this informative.
Thank you.
