MANCHESTER UNITED will begin their Champions League knockout stage campaign on Wednesday.

When picking the team to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 first leg on Wednesday evening, Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick could make four or more changes. One player has already been confirmed as a no-show, while several more could return after starting the weekend's derby against Leeds United on the bench. The following is a breakdown of how the Red Devils are likely to line up:

De Gea, the goalkeeper De Gea, the goalkeeper

This season, the Spaniard has made the most Premier League saves, which speaks much about Man Utd's ability to hold opponents at bay.

For one thing, their defense hasn't been very outstanding this season, but David De Gea has been back to his best.

The team's defensive woes have carried over to the European tournament, with only one clean sheet in six group stage appearances.

Dean Henderson will continue to aspire for first-team involvement in cup games, but as the Champions League season nears its conclusion, there is little question that De Gea will keep his place in goal.

Edinson Cavani will miss this week's match, according to Ralf Rangnick.

Paul Pogba, who plays beside him in the defensive role, is a strong contender to keep his starting spot, although Fred scored an amazing goal after coming off the bench against Leeds.

If Rangnick wants to keep things tight until the return leg at Old Trafford, he could prefer the Brazilian's work ethic in midfield.

Bruno Fernandes is almost certain to play a more offensive position than the aforementioned combination, in which he will be tasked with releasing the attacking force.

After Rangnick confirmed Edinson Cavani's continued injured absence during Tuesday's press conference, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to start in the middle despite a goal-less few weeks.

Jadon Sancho, who has improved by leaps and bounds since his spluttering start at Old Trafford, is also set to keep his spot after two deft Against Leeds, he had two assists, which should help him continue his upward trajectory.

Jesse Lingard was generally unproductive on the right wing on Sunday, while Marcus Rashford sat out. Meanwhile, Anthony Elanga took use of his opportunity after coming off the bench, overcoming a hostile environment to score United's fourth goal before shushing the fans.
