The Russian owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, is said to have been effectively barred from ever living in the United Kingdom again.

For months, the billionaire has not been seen at Stamford Bridge, the home of his Premier League football club in south-west London.

In 2018, he withdrew his application for a British Tier 1 investor visa, citing delays caused by criticism of Russian oligarchs following the Salisbury poisonings.

According to The Sun, senior security sources believe the 55-year-old will never be allowed to return to the UK.

According to reports, immigration officials have been instructed to make it impossible for Mr. Abramovich, who owns a Ł125 million mansion near Kensington Palace, to remain in the country.

His case is said to be being handled by the Home Office's 'Special Cases Unit.'

It comes after Mr. Abramovich was named by MPs on Tuesday as one of 35 oligarchs identified by Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny as "key enablers" of President Vladimir Putin's "kleptocracy."

He vehemently denies any ties to the Kremlin or any actions that would justify sanctions being imposed on him, as Britain considers sanctioning Russia amid rising tensions with Ukraine.

In 2018, Mr. Abramovich became an Israeli citizen, allowing him to visit the UK for up to six months.

On Tuesday, Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran read out a list that included Mr Abramovich's name, as well as the names of other oligarchs, including Arsenal investor Alisher Usmanov.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss would not say whether Mr. Abramovich would face sanctions, but she did say that others would.

"We have a long list of those who have been complicit in the Russian leadership's actions," she said.

"If Russia refuses to withdraw its troops, we can keep up the pressure, targeting more banks, elites, and significant companies." "This is about inflicting pain on Putin and degrading the Russian economic system over time, targeting people close to Putin." What we need to do is make it as unpleasant as possible."

The Prime Minister told the House of Commons that the government was 'bringing forward' the next wave of sanctions, which would 'prevent all Russian banks, all Russian oligarchs, and all Russian individuals from raising money on London markets.'

Ministers are also working on strategies to keep the Kremlin from borrowing on UK financial markets.

According to Tory MP Bob Seely, the 'tide of dirty money' entering the UK from Russia is 'damaging' the country.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer declared that it was time to end the "era of oligarch impunity" and ensure that "this country will no longer be homes for their loot."

Mr Johnson acknowledged that many people wanted things to move faster, but he stressed the importance of doing so on time.

"It is critical to remember that all of these measures are more effective when all financial centers work together, which is what the UK has been doing," he said.

"We have the option of increasing the heat."
