At the Western Naval Command in Sekondi in the Western Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned four aluminum offshore security vessels for the Ghana Navy.

GNS Volta-P40, GNS Densu-P41, GNS-P42, and GNS Ankobra-P3 are the models.

The ships will provide security and other assistance to offshore oil and gas operations in the country's maritime domain.

The Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Navy have been given authority to enter a lease deal with Isreal Shipyard Limited for the lease of four aluminum offshore security vessels as part of the government's endeavor to provide adequate security to offshore oil and gas installations.

The vessels will, among other things, replace prior arrangements for providing security and support to oil and gas activities in the country's maritime domain by using private vessels manned by navy troops.

They have three Caterpillar C32 main engines with a total output of 1.450 horsepower and a top speed of 28 knots.

The vessels have a range of 2,800 nautical miles at 25 knots and a 30-day endurance.

The four security vessels are also equipped with an exterior fire fighting monitor with remote clutch and control, all-around wheelhouse ballistic protection, and two 12.7 mm machine guns located ahead and aft.

The vessels have an overall length of 40.00 meters, a breadth mold of 7.60 meters, a depth mold of 3.65 meters, a loaded draft of 1.89 meters, a fuel capacity of 86,000 liters, a fresh water tank capacity of 30, 000 liters, and a gross tonnage of 279 metric tons.

All four ships were named after prominent water bodies in honor of the important significance they play in Ghanaians' livelihoods and economic development.

Penguin Shipyard planned and built them, and they meet industry design and performance criteria.

The GCB Bank Plc provided the necessary funding.
