On Thursday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged for the cancellation of major sporting events in Russia. 

Scott Morrison, Australia's Prime Minister, Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ukraine-Russia conflict, Scott Morrison, Vladimir Putin, Russian GP, and UCL have all called for a boycott of Russia. 

On Thursday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged for the cancellation of major sporting events in Russia. This follows the commencement of a military action against Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Morrison's statement came after Danielle Scott, an Australian winter Olympian, revealed her decision to leave Russia and skip the World Cup, which is set to take place later this week. 

 

Morrison applauded Scott's decision to pull out of the World Cup and urged that all international athletic events slated for Russia be canceled. 

 

"All international sporting bodies' authorizations for all international sporting events in Russia should be revoked. This includes the F1 Grand Prix in Sochi, as well as other events "In Adelaide, Morrison informed reporters. Morrison went on to say that he applauds Australian athletes who have decided not to compete in any athletic events scheduled in Russia. 

 

The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches will be held in Russia later this month, followed by the UEFA Champions League final in May. Saint Petersburg, Russia, has been chosen to host the Champions League final. In September of this year, Russia will host the Formula One Grand Prix. The race is set to take place in Sochi. 

 

Events Dates 

Play-offs for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers will be held on March 24 and March 29. 

The UEFA Champions League Final will be held on May 28. 

Grand Prix of Russia 

The dates are September 23-25. 

Russia's hosting rights for the UEFA Champions League final may be revoked, according to reports, and the country's hosting rights for the World Cup qualifiers next month may be revoked as well. H

 

However, no official announcement has yet been made regarding the cancellation of the Champions League final in Russia. Formula One has yet to make a decision on the Russian Grand Prix, but Sebastian Vettel, a four-time Formula One winner, has already stated that he will not compete. 

 

War between Russia and Ukraine 

Since yesterday morning, Russia is said to have destroyed more than 70 military sites in major Ukrainian cities. More than 300 civilians have died in the war, including Army officers, and hundreds more have been injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has declared martial law in the country and urged civilians to arm themselves against the invading forces. He has stated that if someone is willing to fight, the government will furnish weaponry.
