Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their chase of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who will shortly be out of contract.
The 28-year-old gigantic centre defender is approaching the end of his current Chelsea contract and appears no closer to a new agreement.
According to The Mirror, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked, and United is keen to step in and sign one of their Premier League rivals for free.
According to the report, interim Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick is interested in signing the Germany international. United are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after conceding 34 league goals so far this season, second only to West Ham and Southampton in the top ten.
While captain and centre back Harry Maguire has been chastised for his underwhelming performances this season.
Rudiger, who earns around £100,000-per-week at Stamford Bridge, turned down Chelsea's latest offer of roughly £140,000-per-week to commit his future to the Blues, according to Sportsmail.
The west London club is thought to have put an informal offer of roughly £200,000 per week on the table, but it fell short. Ruidger has already received pre-contract offers from both LaLiga giants Real and French powerhouse PSG, and he is aware that if he leaves on a Bosman move, his income will soar to £400,000 per week.
This is proving to be a stumbling block for Chelsea, who have stated that they want the defender to stay and are hopeful of securing a new contract for him.
Rangnick, a major admirer of his countryman, has been keeping an eye on Rudiger's contract issue.
