Rangnick, the interim manager, informed Ronaldo in February that he needed to start scoring more goals, but the Man United veteran feels his statistics speak for themselves.
Cristiano Ronaldo has retaliated at Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, insisting that he is still performing at his best.
When Rangnick told Ronaldo earlier this month that he needed to start scoring more goals, the Portuguese legend was taken aback.
But Ronaldo, who has 15 goals for United this season and is the team's top scorer, has informed the German that he has nothing to prove because, despite his age, he remains one of the game's most prominent figures.
"That (competing at the greatest level at his age) isn't easy," Ronaldo remarked, "but it appears like it to me because I show year after year that the stats speak for themselves."
"I don't have to tell you that I'm very good, because the numbers are there."
Rangnick wants more from Ronaldo
Ronaldo is expected to leave United at the end of this season, because he fears the fallen giants will not be able to win trophies.
Rangnick's men are battling just to secure a top four finish and Champions League qualification.
And Ronaldo, who returned to United from Juventus last summer, has reminded them of his strong desire to keep winning silverware before he decides to hang up his boots.

Ronaldo thinks that despite his age, he still has a lot to give.
He continued, " "It's difficult for me to claim that I don't want more, because why not if I'm at a club where I may win more prizes?
"I know I only have four or five years left to play, but we'll see," he says. "I want to win more things."
"The facts are facts; the rest is irrelevant." That's why I'm pleased with my current form; I'm still scoring goals and assisting people and teams, both for the national team and for United, and I want to keep doing so. It's proper to keep competing and striving for the best.
