Today, Roman Abramovich confronted calls to have his liberty to own a football club revoked following the release of documents linking him to Vladimir Putin's government and 'public affiliation with fraudulent activity and practices.'
In recent days, as Russia prepared and then launched an all-out attack on Ukraine, the billionaire Chelsea current owner has faced renewed focus on his business activities.
And today, Labour MP Chris Bryant took advantage of parliamentary privilege to share a leaked to the media Home Office record in the Commons.
He stated that the document was dated 2019 and queried why no action had been carried against the 55-year-old in light of its warnings.
Asked about business this morning, the Rhondda MP and former cabinet minister said: 'I have a leaked document from the Home Office from 2019 that says in connection to Mr Abramovich - "
Abramovich continues to remain of interest to HMG as part of its Russia strategic approach aimed at targeting illegitimate finance and denigrate activity due to his ties to the Russian state and public affiliation with unscrupulous activity and practices.
"As an example, Abramovich admitted in court that he paid money for political influence.
"As a result, HMG is centered on ensuring that people linked to illicit financial and malign activity are prosecuted."
"As a result, HMG is focused on ensuring that individuals linked to fraudulent finance as well as malign activity are unable to base themselves in the UK, and will use all pertinent techniques at its disposal, including immigration powers, to do so." 'That was nearly three years ago, and yet astonishingly little had also been done in this regard.' Mr. Abramovich should not be allowed to ever own a soccer club in this country, right? We should certainly consider seizing some more of his assets, including his £125 million home. And ensuring that other people who received Tier 1 Visas in the past are not engaging in criminal activity?'
It came as it was reported that Mr. Abramovich has effectually been barred from ever living in the United Kingdom again.
For months, the tycoon hadn't been seen at his Premier League football club's home in south-west London, Stamford Bridge. He retreated his proposal for a British Tier 1 stakeholder visa in 2018, citing delays caused by critiques of Russian wealthy elites in the aftermath of the Salisbury toxicosis.
Per the Sun, senior defense officials now believe the 55-year-old will never be permitted to live in the United Kingdom again.
Commons Leader Mark Spencer responded to Mr Bryant, saying, 'He will know that under the sanctions passed in the House this week, there is the chance for the Authorities to take very aggressive stance against high-profile Russian persons who are of concern.'
'He will be conscious that perhaps the Home Secretary will be watching him.'
'He will indeed be conscious that the Home Secretary would be at that despatch box on Monday to answer Home Office questions, and I am confident that he will be able to directly challenge her.' Mr Abramovich, who owns a £125 million huge mansion near Kensington Palace, is reportedly under orders from immigration officials to make it impossible for him to stay in the UK. The 'Special Cases Unit' of the Home Office is said to be handling his case. It comes after Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny named Mr Abramovich as one of 35 oligarchs identified by Russian leader of the opposition Alexei Navalny as "key enablers" of the country's president Vladimir Putin's "kleptocracy." He vehemently denies any ties to the Kremlin or any knowledge of it.

Mr. Abramovich had become Israeli citizen in 2018, enabling him to enter the UK for up to 6 months.
He traveled to London on his Israeli passport just last October.
A senior source, however, assured The Sun that any effort by the oligarch to adapt for a residency permit would 'almost surely be rejected.' Mr. Abramovich is estimated to be worth £8.4 billion. In addition to his vast property portfolio, he owns a number of superyachts, including that of the £450 million Solaris, which is equipped with a missile detection system. Mr. Abramovich has never held British citizenship and made his fortune by selling off assets bought from the state while the Soviet Union disintegrated. With the assistance of Jose Mourinho, he showed up at Chelsea in 2003 as well as transformed the club from an outside challenger to a Premier League giant.
The majority of Abramovich's UK wealth is held in Evraz, a steel and mineral extraction conglomerate listed on the London stock exchange.
On Tuesday, Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran perused out a list that included Mr Abramovich's name, as well as those of other oligarchs such as Arsenal investor Alisher Usmanov.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss refused to reveal whether Mr Abramovich would face sanctions, but she did say that others would. 'We have a lengthy list of those who have been complicit in the Russian leadership's actions,' she said.
'If Russia refuses to withdraw its troops, we can keep the pressure on, targeting more banks, elites, and significant companies.'
'This is all about foisting pain on Putin and gradually demeaning the Russian economic system, while targeting people close to Putin. What we need to do is render it as unpleasant as possible.'
Mr Johnson met with senior City figures yesterday to discuss ways to locknut on Russian individuals and businesses with ties to the Kremlin.
The Prime Minister told the House of Commons that the govt was 'bringing forward' the next wave of sanctions, which would'stop all Russian banks, all Russian oligarchs, all Russian persons raising money on London markets.'
Ministers are also devising strategies to prevent the Kremlin from borrowing on UK financial markets.
The 'tide of dirty money' joining the UK from Russia, according to Tory MP Bob Seely, is 'damaging' the economy.
Labour figurehead Sir Keir Starmer said it was time to put an end to the "era of oligarch impunity" and ensure that "this great nation would no longer be housing for their loot."
Mr Johnson acknowledged that many people wanted things to move faster, but he stressed that it was critical that it be done on an international level.
'It is critical to remember that all of these measures are more efficacious when all financial centers work together, that's what the UK has been doing,' he said.
'We have the option of increasing the heat.'
