On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, an independent Member of Parliament (MP) representing Fomena and the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, turned a year older.
However, his colleagues in parliament did not spare any time during the proceedings to eulogize him. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Majority Whip, proclaimed his birthday on the floor of Parliament.
She sent out goodwill letters on behalf of the August House, which was supported by Ahmed Ibrahim, the Deputy Minority Whip. Mr. Ibrahim, the Banda MP, eulogized: "The stone that the builder rejected has become the major cornerstone," he said, invoking a common African adage.
Others who took turns to wish their colleague well were Techiman North MP, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Bodi MP; Samson Ahi, Tolon MP and Deputy Majority Whip; Habib Iddrisu. "You turned independent as a result of our party's difficult choice, and you made your own difficult decision to go independent." It is because of this difficult decision that you are today's Second Deputy Speaker.
"We wouldn't have identified you as the greatest Second Deputy Speaker we had if we hadn't been able to make such judgments," Mr. Iddrisu praised.
Mr. Asiamah, for one, expressed gratitude to his coworkers for making his 56th birthday special.
