Carlo Ancelotti persisted upbeat on Saturday evening, despite Real Madrid's struggle to defeat a tenacious Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas.

After an underwhelming and tired performance from the LaLiga Santander leaders, Karim Benzema's 83rd-minute strike secured the points for Los Blancos.

"I'm very pleased with the effort, commitment, and intensity shown in the game," Ancelotti said afterwards.

"It was a game that required us to be competitive in a variety of ways."

I'm extremely pleased.

It's a difficult place to play because of the atmosphere and the pitch, but we did extremely well." I don't believe many teams have ever won here. "I could be mistaken, but I don't see any negatives today." "I'm overjoyed." Sometimes you fail, but the important thing is to try and we tried everything we could today.

"We could compare this game to a final because Real Madrid usually wins finals." I thought the team was very energetic, and we were relieved to have a week to train well. We're in pretty good shape. "I'm overjoyed."

Casemiro battled on Saturday and was on the verge of being sent off before being replaced around the hour mark.

"He was excellent," Ancelotti said.

"He scored a goal [which was ruled out for offside]."

"The midfielders suffered the most as a result of the pitch." I took him off because having him booked in a game like this could have been dangerous."
