Following their dreadful 0-0 draw with Watford, Manchester United's under-fire captain Bruno Fernandes has issued an early warning to his under-fire teammates.
After failing to overcome Watford, Bruno Fernandes believes Manchester United must win the derby "at all costs" next Sunday.
United lost further distance in the race for a top-four spot, putting even more pressure on them to win three points against local rivals Manchester City next weekend.
Fernandes said that United's failure to beat Watford means they have no choice but to beat Pep Guardiola's league leaders.
"We have to focus on the next game, win it, and collect three points again," Fernandes said on MUTV. "It's one of those games when we understand the significance for the city, the fans, the team, and ourselves."
"We want to win this game at all costs."
Man United must defeat City, according to Fernandes.
Fernandes remarked of United's failure to convert a dominant performance into a win: "It was just one of those days when the ball refused to enter the net.
"Unfortunately, there was only one point for us. We've lost ground on third position once more. That, I believe, is the most important factor for us, since we might be much closer to Chelsea.
"However, now is not the time to start calculating how many points we should have now or in the end. We had good chances to score, even big chances.
"I believe I had two good chances to score." However, it turned out to be one of those days where we could have stayed another hour and still not scored."
"We did everything except score," said interim manager Ralf Rangnick, echoing Fernandes' dissatisfaction. We must accept the outcome; winning the game is difficult.
"With the exception of the final five minutes, we were in complete control for virtually the whole game." Aside from that, we had complete control over the game.
"We'd got our fair share of chances." We had four clear chances in the first half, which would ordinarily have been enough to score one or two goals. During the second half, there were similar.
Rangnick blamed his players for the failure.
"It's about efficiency, about being clinical in front of goal, and sadly this isn't the first time, but aside from that, we were in complete control of the game and controlled it."
Rangnick went on to say, seemingly blaming his players, "Our role as coaches is to help the squad create enough chances."
"We could ask ourselves, well what can we do to create more chances if we just had two or three opportunities in the game, but I think the number of clear chances we had today has to be enough to win a game like this."
