Ajax sensation Antony and Villarreal speedster Arnaut Danjuma are supposedly being pursued by Manchester United. This summer, the Red Devils are rumored to be looking to boost their offense.
Manchester United is keeping an eye on the two wingers' performances, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are expected to be replaced by Antony and Arnaut Danjuma.
According to Unitedinfocus.com, Romano told FIVE:
"Antony is a great player who Man United is keeping an eye on. He's not the only one, but he's the one they're looking for. Danjuma is the same way. Danjuma is having a great season at Villarreal."
Mason Greenwood's future at Old Trafford is in doubt after he was arrested on sexual assault accusations by the police. During the January transfer window, Anthony Martial, on the other hand, joined Sevilla on loan until the end of the season.
The Frenchman became dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at Old Trafford. This summer, Martial is poised to leave United on a permanent basis.
Antony, an Ajax winger, has swiftly established himself as one of Europe's most promising young talents. In the summer of 2020, the 22-year-old signed Ajax from Sao Paulo. In his first season with the club, he scored 10 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions. Last season, Antony helped Ajax win the Eredivise and the KNVB Cup.
This season, the Brazilian has improved dramatically, scoring 11 goals and assisting nine times in 28 appearances for Ajax across all competitions. Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing a left-footed winger to replace Mason Greenwood, as a result of his performances.
This season, though, Arnaut Danjuma has been Villarreal's talisman. In 23 appearances for Unai Emery's side in all competitions, the former Bournemouth winger has scored 12 goals and contributed four assists.
The Dutchman's quickness, dribbling, and goal-scoring ability make him a perfect Anthony Martial successor at Old Trafford. Danjuma's contract with Sevilla reportedly has a £62.5 million release clause. Manchester United will try to negotiate a cheaper cost.
Manchester United might spend more money on a striker rather than a winger.
According to ESPN, Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has stated that the team will need to buy a young striker during the January transfer window. The Red Devils rely largely on seasoned attackers Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani to score goals at the moment.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the club's best striker this season, with 15 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions. The Portuguese star, on the other hand, has struggled in recent weeks and has been chastised for his lack of work ethic. Cristiano Ronaldo is in the twilight of his career at 37, and as a result, he may not be able to consistently contribute for United.
Injuries have wreaked havoc on Edinson Cavani's 2021-22 season. This season, he has only made 15 appearances for Rangnick's team. The 34-year-contract old's with the Red Devils is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, therefore he is anticipated to leave this summer.
Manchester United has several wingers in their lineup, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga, and Jesse Lingard. When Anthony Martial returns from his loan term with Sevilla at the end of the season, the club may decide to keep him.
As a result, United is likely to concentrate their efforts this summer on acquiring a top-tier striker. Erling Haaland, a striker for Borussia Dortmund, has been linked with a move to the club. In 79 appearances for the German team, the Norwegian has scored an astonishing 80 goals in all competitions.
