David Beckham's Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami will make every effort to sign Lionel Messi if he decides to leave Paris Saint-Germain this season.
Messi has yet to replicate his Barcelona form at the French giants, netting just seven goals in 23 outings so far this season.
Messi joined PSG on a two-year deal with an option for an additional year following his departure from Barcelona last summer.
However, Goal reports that the 34-year-old may consider relocating to America if he wishes to finish his stint in Paris early.
When asked about the possibility of signing Messi, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Vas did not dismiss the rumours, citing Beckham's bond with the renowned No. 10.
'Leo Messi is still one of the world's top players; his abilities have not deteriorated,' he is reported as saying
'I believe, and David has a relationship with him, that if Lionel Messi does leave PSG at the time he does, we would love to have him play for Inter Miami and be a part of our community.
'Is it possible? Consider that we will press. At my core, I am an optimist. Could I foresee that occurring? It is possible.
Beckham was a little more circumspect when questioned about bringing Messi to the DRV PNK Stadium.
'I've always stated that I want the best players at our club and in our uniform, as there is an expectation. Unfortunately, it is not always a good thing. However, this is frequently a beneficial thing.
'When I began this project, people were telling me, 'This man is coming, that guy is coming, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is coming, Messi is coming.' At the end of the day, we need to win, whether we're dealing with small children or celebrities.
'Our fans will be delighted if we have stars on the team, but they will be even more delighted if they see young players develop via our program and win the MLS Cup.'
Messi intimated in January that he could end his career in America.
According to the Mirror, the forward stated: 'I have always had the illusion of being able to enjoy and live the experience of living in the United States, of discovering how that league operates and how life is there.
'I would like to do so later in my career, but I have no idea whether that will happen or not.'
