Manchester United is reportedly interested in two players ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ralf Rangnick's team hopes to add to its squad at the end of the season in order to compete for the Premier League title the following season.

Cody Gakpo and Joao Palhinha are two players on their radar right now.

Manchester United has had a challenging season so far.

Rangnick is part of the Red Devils' future plans as they look to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.

Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven has been recommended to the club's recruitment team, according to The Mirror.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of Europe's brightest talents after scoring 13 goals and assisting on 13 occasions.

United had just seen him play in PSV's 1-0 Europa League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Netherlands international scored the game's lone goal, boosting his team's chances of advancing to the next round.

United are considering a move for Gakpo due to the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, and Edinson Cavani at the moment.

Rangnick's personal request for Gakpo to be monitored demonstrates that he is a serious transfer target behind closed doors.

And he's not the only one they're watching.

According to the publication, United is also interested in Sporting Lisbon's Palhinha.

The club's contract with the 26-year-old was recently renewed, and his new term runs through 2026.

Sporting, on the other hand, claims that this is merely an attempt to "defend the value of their asset."

United may sign the Portugal midfielder for £50 million, according to a clause in his new contract.

Sporting, on the other hand, is thought to be open to offers in the £20 million range, assuming add-ons are included.

This season, the midfielder has appeared on at least eight occasions for United.

They believe they have a good chance of signing him because of their ties with the Portuguese giants.

United has signed four Sporting players in the last two decades.

Ronaldo was the first, arriving in the summer of 2003 as David Beckham's replacement.

Nani arrived four years later, and the forward went on to win four league titles at Old Trafford with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Following the departures of club legends Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, United signed Sporting CP midfielder Marcos Rojo in 2014.

After losing out on a contract with Erling Haaland, who was strutting his stuff for Red Bull Salzburg at the time, they landed Bruno.

Meanwhile, ignoring the fact that he is nearing the end of his career, Ronaldo has stated that he still wishes to win more titles.

"It's difficult to say I don't want more, because if I'm at a club where I can win more things, why not?" he said.

"And in the national team as well."

I know I don't have many years left in the game, maybe four or five, but I want to win more.

"You have to be intelligent and understand that you are not the same at 18, 20, or 25 as you are at 35."

And it takes maturity, experience, and intelligence to understand that you may have to give up some things in order to win others and have the right balance to compete and perform at the highest level."

Despite rumors that Ronaldo wishes to leave, the veteran has stated that he is content with his current situation.

"Year after year, I demonstrate that the numbers speak for themselves," the icon stated. "I don't have to tell you how good I am because the numbers show it." The facts are true, but the rest is not. "That's why I'm very happy with my form; I'm still scoring goals, helping people, teams, both in the national team and at Manchester United, and that's why I want to keep going."
