Managing editor-in-chief of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior has claimed that government is in big trouble and can't get anything that requires a division passed in Parliament.
Speaking on the e-levy stalemate in Parliament, the journalist revealed that apart from Sarah Adwoa Safo who has been accused of holding the ruling government to ransom, there is a Member of Parliament who doubles as Minister currently bedridden and can't come to Parliament for the passage of the bill.
After a failed attempt to pass the bill in 2021, government is racing against time to have the unpopular passed due to their shortfall in numbers in the law making chamber.
"There is one dimension we should look at since this e-levy problem came out, have you heard any attempt by government to push through any business that needs approval? Because the numbers are not good. If we accept the current numbers who are present in Parliament and will continue to be numbers, there is still a problem.
A problem exists because a Member of Parliament and Minister is indisposed that no matter what they do, he can't be in Parliament. He can't be put on a stretcher and brought to the house, neither can he fly here using a private jet because he is seriously indisposed.
If Adwoa Safo comes down, the number will still be 137-137 and the constitution and standing orders of Parliament are clear on that".
One of government's revenue basket for the 2022 fiscal year is still pending on the floor of Parliament. Both sides of the house has taken entrenched positions on it's passage.
Sarah Adwoa Safo is allegedly holding government to ransom and demanding the removal of Afenyo Markins to take her role in the last Parliament. According to Assin Central MP, a 120,000 was paid to coerce her to come and vote for the approval of the bill.
