Previous Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has expanded his agreement with Parma until 2024, meaning he will be 46 when it lapses.

The World Cup champ, 44, rejoined the Serie B club on a two-year bargain the previous summer.

Buffon came out on top for 10 Serie A championships with Juventus and has played a record 657 games in the Italian first class.

"For myself as well as my family, this is an awesome day. I trust that the city and all fans will be blissful," said Buffon.

Buffon - who made his Serie An introduction for Parma in November 1995 - has played 23 association games this season for the club, who are thirteenth in the 20-group Serie B after 26 matches.

"My re-visitation of Parma was connected to the connections and the profound bond I have consistently had with this city," added Buffon.

"On the off chance that I hadn't had confidence in what the future held mind and in what the future held, could never have acknowledged this proposition.

"I'm hopeful for the fate of this club. It is quite difficult for me."

Buffon declared the new arrangement in a news gathering on Monday, at which he was joined by club president Kyle Krause.

"Notwithstanding administration characteristics, he has extraordinary human characteristics. For Parma, his choice to go on with us is an honor," said Krause.
