Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, believes his old club is closer to winning the Premier League title than Arsenal, and he makes a bold prediction.

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United are a better bet to win the Premier League than Arsenal.

The Gunners have not won the English Premier League since their famous Invincibles season in 2003/04, while Manchester United have not won the title since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge in 2012/13.

Nowadays, the realistic goal for both clubs is to finish in the top four, with Manchester City and Liverpool's incredible consistency proving too much for the teams.

Man United are currently in fourth place with 47 points, while Arsenal are sixth with 45, but the Gunners have played three games fewer than their top four rivals.

Arsenal would move ahead of United with a win in their remaining three games, but Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand believes his former club is closer to challenging for the title than the Gunners.

"I think Man United have to write off the next year or two and say 'we are going to rebuild,'" Ferdinand said on his Vibe with FIVE podcast on YouTube.

You can't win with that transition. It does not occur. Liverpool did not participate. How long did Jurgen Klopp take to win?

Man United are not in a constant competition for trophies, particularly the Premier League and the Champions League.

When asked if his team could compete for the Premier League title, Arteta responded: "That will take at least a few windows to complete. It takes time to establish yourself at the level of certain clubs in this league, which is nearly 100 points." In football, time is of the essence, and fans are impatient. But it's a very dangerous thing to do if you don't respect the processes and ask certain people to do certain things when the foundations aren't in place.

"I know we all want to see Arsenal win the league. Every time, my only goal is to get ready for the football game. Time will tell where we end up. There are still a lot of things that will happen. " We must brace ourselves for adversity. We knew that from the start because it isn't something that happened in the last year; it happened many years ago." That's a significant challenge in a league with 38 games. But we're all prepared.
