Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho previously appeared to deliver a harsh verdict on current club owner Roman Abramovich amid speculation of a takeover.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has previously stated that he was never friends with Roman Abramovich, despite ongoing speculation about his ownership of the club.
The Russian oligarch took a step back from day-to-day operations at Stamford Bridge last week amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and he now appears to be moving closer to selling the club.
Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, has claimed that he is one of several parties who have been offered the opportunity to purchase the club.
He stated: "[Abramovich] wants to get rid of Chelsea as soon as possible. On Tuesday, I and three other people received an offer from Abramovich to buy Chelsea." I now have to wait four to five days. Abramovich's current asking price is far too high. You should know that Chelsea owes him £2 billion [£1.5 billion]. Chelsea, on the other hand, does not have any money. That means that whoever buys Chelsea must compensate Abramovich." We don't know the exact selling price as of yet. I can easily see myself starting at Chelsea with partners. But first, I need to look at the overall situation. But I can already say this: I'm not doing something like this by myself. If I buy Chelsea, I will do so with a group of six to seven investors."
The Chelsea owner confirmed the report that he would be selling the club, bringing an end to Abramovich's nearly 20-year association with the Blues.
Former manager Jose Mourinho was one of those who collaborated closely with the Russian during that time.
Abramovich hired – and then fired – the Portuguese manager twice, during which time he led the club to three Premier League titles.
Mourinho gave his opinion on his relationship with the Russian oligarch in 2016.
"He [Abramovich] was never my friend," he said.
We've always had an owner-manager relationship, and it's a very respectful one. We were never close. We were never particularly close. So, no, he's just a person I hold in high regard."
