Loudmouth Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong has broken ranks with his party over the Attorney General's decision to prosecute Former Deputy Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson.
The Former Deputy Finance Minister has been charged with causing financial loss to the state together with the Chief Director of the Health Ministry, Slyvester Anemana and businessman, Richard Jakpa.
The trio have been charged for wilfully causing financial loss to the state contravening the procurement act and misapplying public funds with regards to their roles played in the acquisition of 200 ambulances under the John Mahama era.
Speaking on his Oman TV, he indicated that he strongly disagrees with the Attorney General's decision to prosecute a Deputy Minister of finance for issuing a letter of credit for another ministry.
"I disagree with Ato Forson's own. Yes the truth will kill me because if you say someone is a Deputy Minister of Finance and a different Ministry brings their contract for him to establish a letter of credit and you say this now, then current Ministers supporting this must be careful.
According to the loudmouth Assin Central lawmaker, the Health Ministry was the one responsible to ensure the delivery of the contract not the Ministry who only issued a letter of credit. He added the charge causing financial loss to the state is problematic.
Mr. Agyapong emphasized that the Finance Minister then through his deputy was only responsible for issuing a letter of credit and not to oversee that the goods were delivered according to the contract because there was a contracting Ministry.
He expressed his strongest disagreement with Ato Forson's case.
All three accused has pleaded not guilty and will be returning to court in April.
