Villarreal 1-0 Osasuna: CA Osasuna defeated European aspirations Villarreal 1-0 at the Estadio El Sadar, moving into the top half of La Liga for the first time since early October.

Valencia 3-1 Granada: Valencia cruised to a 3-1 victory over Granada at Estadio Mestalla, their first win at home in five matches. They have never lost a head-to-head encounter against the Andalusians at home since their first meeting in 1941/42.

Granada lost their fourth league game in a row on the road, failing to take advantage of Valencia's previous dismal record at Mestalla. The visitors' winless streak in La Liga has now stretched to nine games, and they are only one point above the bottom three.

Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, continuing their quest for their 35th league title. An eight-point lead over Sevilla appears insurmountable for a club that has only surrendered once in their previous five league games.

Carlo Ancelotti's side has battled to find its feet recently, failing to score from open play in each of their previous five home games. The visitors took advantage of "Los Blancos'" slow start to take the lead after only ten minutes.

The hosts didn't have a shot on target until the 40th minute, but it was a beauty when they did. Eduardo Camavinga was allowed too much freedom from 25 yards out and unleashed his shot, giving Alex Remiro little chance as the ball settled into the bottom corner.

Real's tails were up and they scored just seconds after the first strike, but Karim Benzema's goal was disallowed owing to a razor-thin offside call. Luka Modric, undeterred, unleashed a spectacular stunner from outside the area to complete a fast turnaround. Imanol Alguacil's side were the superior squad for the first 40 minutes, but they fell down at halftime.

The league's top scorer was wreaking havoc on the Sociedad defense, but Remiro was up to the task, stopping Benzema from adding to his tally of 20 goals. Benzema calmly despatched from 12 yards after Aritz Elustondo felled Vinicius Junior inside the area, but there was no stopping him in the end.

When Marco Asensio added the icing on the cake late in the game, Carlo Ancelotti extended his unprecedented quest to become the first coach to win each of Europe's top five titles.
