Ralf Rangnick, the temporary manager of Manchester United, has stated that he 'knows he wants' to succeed him at Old Trafford, as rumours about Erik ten Hag's appointment grows.
Ralf Rangnick has intimated that he 'knows who he wants' to succeed him as Manchester United manager.
He's also declined to rule out Erik ten Hag, despite persistent rumors that the Dutchman is Rangnick's favorite candidate for the part.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November, Rangnick was given the job on an interim basis.
At the end of the season, the German is scheduled to leave the dugout for a two-year advisory post, which means he'll have a large say in who succeeds him at Old Trafford.
Rangnick stated that he has already made up his mind regarding the position, but he has not yet discussed it with United management.
Ralf Rangnick has offered a major hint about the next Manchester United boss.
"We haven't had that topic in the last weeks and months since I've been here," he told Sky Sports. "Nobody, not just [United football director] John Murtough, but nobody else, we haven't had that topic in the last weeks and months since I've been here." I have an opinion [on who should take the post], but we haven't discussed it yet, so this is all I can say.
"I don't know him as a person to begin with." Obviously, I've seen his progress at Ajax while he's been there, and I know a little bit about his work with Bayern Munich, so I know he's one of the best managers in Europe, but there are a few others.
"As I stated, we haven't talked about any new managers yet, so we didn't talk about him either."
United is apparently interested in Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag has received high praise for the job he's done at Ajax, and rumours indicate that United has'made contact' with his camp.
The 52-year-old has done an incredible job in Amsterdam for the past four years, and he's intimated this year that he's ready to take the next step in his career by heading abroad.
While ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino have been linked with the Old Trafford position, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has emerged as a surprise candidate.

Hasenhuttl has made an impression on the south coast, and he previously worked with Rangnick at RB Leipzig.
Murtough and Darren Fletcher have also been pleased with the Austrian, according to The Mirror.
Hasenhuttl has made a name for himself this season, with Southampton impressing against the best clubs in the league, notably two draws against Manchester City.
