Despite facing heavy competition from Arsenal, football analyst Gary Neville believes Manchester United can still finish in the top four in the Premier League.
Last night (March 6) at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester United were humiliated 4-1 by derby rivals Manchester City. Earlier in the day, the Gunners beat Watford 3-2 to move into fourth place in the Premier League standings.
Mikel Arteta's team now has a one-point lead over Ralf Rangnick's side, with three games in hand. Despite the fact that Arsenal appear to be in control of a top-four finish, Neville feels United still have a chance.
According to Sky Sports (as reported by the Daily Mail), he said:
"I still believe United has a chance (get fourth place). I don't have complete faith in Arsenal. Manchester United still has to travel to Arsenal, which is a big journey. Next week, United must defeat Tottenham."
It's worth noting that Arsenal's three remaining games are all difficult. They have road matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, as well as a home match against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Their supporters, on the other hand, had much to celebrate about over the weekend. Apart from Manchester United's hammering at the hands of Manchester City, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers also lost. Only Spurs remain in contention for a spot in the top four.
Arsenal's match against Manchester United on April 23 will surely be the highlight of the season. By then, both teams will have a clearer idea of their top-four objectives, and it promises to be a key match in the league season's final leg.
