Dakpema Naa Fuseini Bawa, the Tamale Chief, and four others were allegedly shot on Monday morning.

This is the outcome of the Chief acting as the regent over the area, according to sources.

The incident occurred on Monday morning, when the Dakpema's talking drum was beaten at the palace, indicating that he is the area's chief, according to sources.

The five persons admitted to the Tamale Teaching Hospital are in good health, according to reports.

The incident is being investigated as a crime, according to Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga of the Northern Regional Crime Officer.

There appears to be a schism in the Tamale city as to who is the Tamale Chief.

The Yaa Naa has already chosen who is the Chief of Tamale, and the Dakpema has been ordered not to seek the title.

He also urged him to stop playing the talking drum, which is a status symbol for a chief.

The Gukpegu Naa Alhassan Abdulai cautioned in January 2022 that if the Dakpema's position as Chief of Tamale was not handled, the Metropolis' existing tranquility would be jeopardized.

For a long time, there has been a dispute over who is the Tamale Chief, but Mohammed Rashad Abdulai, the Secretary to the Gukpena, indicated during a news conference in Tamale that they intend to clear the air on who is the Tamale Chief.

He claimed that the Dakpema had repeatedly produced fundraising letters and signed them as the Chief of Tamale, which is false. He also referenced an upcoming Dakpema-hosted event.

Mr. Rashad noted that a person can only be a Paramount Chief if they are a member of the Dagbon Traditional Council and live in the Northern Region, noting that the Dakpema is neither a member of the Council nor a Northern Region resident.
