Leading member of the National Democratic Congress and once Finance Minister, Kwesi Botchway has expressed worry over the increasing trend of intolerance against dissent voices in the country.
Speaking at a public lecture held at the University of Ghana's Cedi Centre organized by One Ghana Movement, the respectable economist revealed that he was advised against airing his views on the negatives of this government and was discouraged by family and well-wishers.
"These people are very vindictive and they will come after you if you criticize them, they said. I was dismayed and worried if this is truly reflective of the situation in our time".
Mr. Botchway said he was told to guard his utterances or be attacked by assigns of this government and recounted Akufo-Addo's inaugural address admonishing Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators and justapoxed it against the happenings now.
I asked myself whether my friends had perhaps missed in President Akufo-Addo's exaltations to us on 7th January, 2017 in his inaugural speech or it was made in earnest.
On the economy, he revealed the economy was suffering and was in great distress owing to incompetence and mismanagement of the public purse.
He advised against going to the International Monetary Fund for a bailout and propsed a cut in government's expenditure and avoid measures that will mortgage or collateralize Ghana's future resources and plunged us into more debts.
He added Ghana is now seen as not creditworthy by foreign investors likewise our policies and admonished the management of the state treasury to act face to save the situation from ballooning.
