Manchester United has battled for goals in recent weeks, and Ralf Rangnick's side may regret letting Donny van de Beek to join Everton on loan, as one of his primary skills has been highlighted.
Following Michael Carrick's comments about the Manchester United outcasts' strengths, Ralf Rangnick may regret loaning out Donny van de Beek.
After finding minutes increasingly difficult to come by at Old Trafford, the Netherlands international moved to Everton on a six-month loan deal in January.
Since joining United from Ajax in the summer of 2020, the 24-year-old has made just four Premier League starts for the Red Devils, with his final five league games totaling just 11 minutes.
After being refused a transfer last summer, Van van Beek was recently given a chance with the Toffees, but former United coach Carrick's comments suggest that Rangnick may have grown to regret his choice.
Ralf Rangnick may come to regret allowing Donny van de Beek to go on loan from Manchester United.
"He's extremely versatile as well," Carrick said of Van de Beek in an interview with Premier League Productions. He possesses a variety of abilities.
"He's been playing in a three tonight [against Tottenham], but I think he's a genuine threat in and around the area." He's a genius in and out of the box."
The midfielder struggled for game time under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick, and when called upon, was regularly utilized in a variety of roles.
Van de Beek was frequently used in center midfield as a number six under Rangnick, despite his success at Ajax as a more advanced number ten.
United might have used an additional option in attack in recent weeks, as they have struggled to score goals and have failed to convert a series of draws into victories.
Everton have drawn 1-1 draws with Burnley and Southampton since Van de Beek joined the club, and recently drew 0-0 with Watford at home.
Let your voice be heard! Will Ralf Rangnick be sorry he let Donny van de Beek go on loan from Manchester United? Here's where you can tell us what you think.
Michael Carrick praised Van van Beek's performance in and out of the ring.
Rangnick has been without a creative force capable of causing havoc in and around the opposition penalty box in recent weeks, and it looks that he has loaned out one player who would have been ideal for the job.
Earlier in the season, on Rio Ferdinand's Vibe with Five podcast, the Dutchman discussed his best position and echoed Carrick's statements about his own versatility.
"I think I can play as a six," Van van Beek said, "but I don't know what the manager thinks or what he expects from me." "I've previously performed this position with Ajax."
Everton have granted Van de Beek a new lease on life till the end of the season.
"Of course, I was playing number 10 at the end, but I also played a few games at number six." This is a role that I am capable of playing.
"It's impossible to explain [what my optimum position is]." That depends on how well you work together as a team.
"For the way we play, I think a number six or eight is the best position for me."
Everton's loss is United's gain, and Frank Lampard will be hoping Van de Beek can send a message to Rangnick while assisting the Toffees in their desperate bid to avoid relegation.
