Raphael Varane returned to training on Wednesday morning, giving Man United and interim manager Ralf Rangnick a big selection boost.
Manchester Evening News said that the France international was sighted coming to the club's Carrington training base, but that fellow defender Luke Shaw was not present.
The pair recently tested positive for Covid-19, preventing them from playing in their team's Manchester derby match on Sunday.
Varane hasn't played in any of his team's last five games. Rangnick had to make a late alteration to his starting lineup after being slated to play against Brighton and Hove Albion last month.
Since early February, Raphael Varane has not played for Manchester United.
Varane's late removal pre-kickoff against the Seagulls was verified by the club's official website, with Rangnick telling BBC Sport after the game that Varane was ill.
"After supper and a team meeting, on the way out of the hotel," the German explained. "He was having stomach issues." We were expecting to get rid of it with medication, but he wasn't feeling well, so Victor Lindelof was brought in instead.
"After three draws, this is crucial. This was crucial, and we have another intense game against Leeds coming up on Sunday, with high-speed football for 95 minutes, and we need to recover and be in top condition."
Varane's return might provide United a boost.
However, with the Red Devils trying to rebound from last weekend's 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Pep Guardiola's Citizens, United will play Spurs in the Premier League this weekend.
Although it is unclear whether Varane will be reinstated to Rangnick's starting lineup, the fact that he is back in training with three days to go will undoubtedly give fans hope ahead of what is a'must-win' match in the fight for the top four.
