Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo's agent, is said to have had to calm the Portuguese legend down during crucial talks regarding his Manchester United future.
Mendes, widely considered as one of the game's top agents, attempted to appease the former Real Madrid and Juventus star after he was dropped from United's squad for the weekend's match against Manchester City.
However, according to the Sun, Mendes is fighting a losing battle with Ronaldo, who is on the verge of leaving Old Trafford less than a year after his dramatic comeback.
According to the story, the 37-year-old is still enraged after Ralf Rangnick informed him that he would be used as a replacement versus City.
Rangnick reportedly wanted to start without a known number nine and expected Ronaldo to make an impact off the bench, which did not sit well with the star.
After the thrashing at the Etihad, Ronaldo complained of a hip ailment, which the German veteran alluded to after the defeat.
He said after the game: "I have no choice but to trust our medical team. Our doctor informed me on Friday morning that Cristiano would be unable to exercise due to hip flexor issues, and the same on Saturday."
Rangnick risked Ronaldo's anger earlier this season when he took him off early against Brentford, resulting in the six-time Ballon d'Or winner throwing a tantrum.
However, CR7 travelled to Portugal instead of watching his team suffer an embarrassing defeat against their local rivals, which might be catastrophic.
Despite the fact that Ronaldo returned to the club's training field on Tuesday, it is unclear whether his journey to Portugal was technically sanctioned by the club.
On Wednesday, he was back at Carrington, but he didn't take part in full training with the rest of the squad.
It's unclear whether he'll play against Tottenham on Saturday, which is a key six-pointer in the fight to qualify for next season's Champions League.
