Andreas Christensen is rumored to be on his way out of Chelsea. Over the last year, the centre-back has been one of the Blues' better defenders, but his contract is scheduled to expire this summer. Barcelona is also in talks with the Danish defender about a free transfer.

Chelsea must make preparations in the summer transfer market to replace Andreas Christensen.

Under Thomas Tuchel, the Blues have won all of their trophies thanks to an excellent and frugal defense. However, they may lose three defenders during the summer. Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger both have contracts that will expire this summer. Chelsea will be hit the hardest by the loss of Christensen, who is still only 25 years old. However, because he is on the verge of leaving, the West London club will need to find replacements. On that subject, here are five players who might take Christensen's spot at Chelsea:

#4 Ginter, Matthias

Matthias Ginter is currently one of the best-rounded center-backs in the world. Ginter has continued to impress despite Borussia Monchengladbach's struggles in the Bundesliga this season. The German team has one of the worst defensive records in the Bundesliga, but Ginter can only take so much of the blame. The German international has held his own against some of the league's top strikers while also passing the ball out from the back. With or without the ball, he is a capable defender. Furthermore, his stature and playing style are comparable to Christensen's, with both players remaining calm even in high-pressure situations. Another thing both players have in common is that Ginter's contract will expire in the summer. He has previously stated his intention to quit the club, and Chelsea may be able to sign him on a free transfer once Christensen has left permanently.

#3 Ronald Araujo

This season, Ronald Araujo has been one of Barcelona's best players. Despite the fact that Xavi has gotten the Nou Camp back on track, the centre-back has been remarkably steady throughout the season. Araujo, who is only 23, is already a regular starter for the five-time Champions League champions. The Uruguyan international is a hard tackler who rarely gets sent off. His passing range is also impressive, and he's now playing the tiki-taka style that Xavi so brilliantly exploited at Barcelona. Chelsea requires a player who is both defensively sound and inventive with his passes. Araujo satisfies all of the employment requirements. The South American star is also in the final 18 months of his deal, making him a sellable asset if the La Liga team requires cash. If the Blues decide to let him go, the Barcelona star could be a realistic candidate to replace Christensen.

#2 Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt, who is only 22 years old, is perhaps the best center-back in the world. This season, the Dutchman has continued to impress for Juventus, and he has been crucial to the club's hopes of finishing in the top four in Serie A. The centre-back is a good passer of the ball and is very aware of his surroundings. De Ligt's versatility, as he can play in both a back four and a back three, is one of the advantages of having him. Furthermore, the Dutch international is a threat in set-pieces, as he frequently gets his head to the ball first on corners. Tuchel likes versatile centre-backs and players who can score goals from set-pieces, so De Bruyne is a good fit for him. De Ligt may be an excellent Christensen substitute.

#1 Jules Kounde

For nearly a year, Jules Kounde has been linked with a move to Chelsea. The Sevilla striker has been a revelation in Spain over the last few years, and a move to England has been rumored since last summer.

Only a few defenders in the world football are now better than the French international. In practically every element of the game, the centre-back is technically sound and capable.

Sevilla has had the most frugal defense in La Liga this season because to his pairing with Diego Carlos. He is one of the hottest properties in European football due to his agility, strength on the ball, and imaginative passing. Chelsea have been connected with him, and if Christensen leaves in the summer, Kounde might be a priority acquisition for the Blues.
