The movie industry is the largest and most expensive sector of global entertainment, with budget estimates for movie premieres in the millions of dollars. The location or locations where directors choose to shoot their films could be due to a variety of causes or the milieu in which they want their films to fit in.
The Ghanaian film industry, while being one of the largest in Africa, has not lived up to its billing, and with many American film producers flocking to our spaciousness and gorgeous beaches to shoot their blockbuster films, let us have a look at a few films shot in Ghana and their exact locations.
1.Ali: A Hollywood film based on the life of former world heavyweight champion Mohammed Ali, who passed away a few years ago. Extracts from that film were shot in Accra, and it was a tremendous experience to witness our beloved country featured in one of Hollywood's finest sports and biography films.
2.Deadly Voyage: one of David Dontoh's best films, set in late 1996 and featuring parts of a ship docking in Tema harbor and six Ghanaians stowing away to seek greener pastures in Europe. Their perilous adventure does not end well, nor does it go according to plan, as bigoted ship personnel pursue them one by one.
3.Freetown Another Hollywood film shot entirely in West Africa, with Ghana being no exception. The film depicts evangelists attempting to flee a war zone to another country where they can preach the gospel without fear of losing their lives.
4. The most popular film on the list is Beast of No Nation, which will interest you because it not only stars young Ghanaian actors but was also shot in Ghana's eastern region. The film was shot in the middle of the ezile bay in Koforidua, and it came as no surprise when it was accepted by Netflix.
5.The Dead: A zombie horror film shot on the west coast of Ghana in 2010 that starred Prince David Osei and David Dontoh, among other notable stars in the Ghanaian film industry.
The film depicts an army jet crashing near a heavily populated seaside community infested by zombies, as well as the survivors' fight for survival.
