Man United are in the market for a new forward in the summer transfer window, and Moussa Dembele is one of the players being considered.
Moussa Dembele's current contract with Lyon is coming to an end.
Manchester United is interested in signing Lyon attacker Moussa Dembele during the summer transfer window. It follows Ralf Rangnick's suggestion that United aim to buy a younger striker at the end of the season.
United is reportedly interested in a prospective move, according to the Manchester Evening News, but the 25-year-old is just one of a number of players being considered.
Dembele would only be considered a squad player if he joined United this summer, according to a source close to the Lyon player, and would most likely be seen as a replacement for the leaving Edinson Cavani rather than a regular starter.
Those close to the French attacker also stressed that Dembele is not in any hurry to leave Lyon, where he is vice captain, despite the fact that his contract is about to expire. The forward has stated that he will evaluate any options that may present themselves, with a strong emphasis on the entire project of any club he wishes to join.
Dembele has nine goals in 19 league games this season for Lyon, including a five-goal run in his past seven outings. United's pursuit of a new striker comes after interim manager Rangnick recommended the club to recruit a younger attacker in the summer, with Cavani's current contract set to expire.
If the squad fails to qualify for the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo's future is also uncertain, while Anthony Martial could push to leave when he returns from a loan spell at Sevilla. Marcus Rashford is also thinking about his future after being left out of the starting XI against City last weekend.
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was manager, the club explored signing Dembele two years ago, but they ultimately decided against it when Romelu Lukaku was sold in the summer of 2020. Dembele, who came through the Fulham development system, would be considered a homegrown player if he joined United this season.
