Cesar Azpilicueta, the captain of Chelsea, has met with Barcelona coach Xavi.
Barcelona is keeping a careful eye on the Chelsea issue, which has seen Roman Abramovich penalised and could have ramifications for Azpilicueta's future.
The player's deal with the Blues expires in the summer, and he may leave. He has a clause in his contract that states that he must play a particular number of games - which he hasn't done yet - and that it can only be invoked if both the club and the player agree.
Xavi is particularly interested in Azpilicueta, who could end up playing for Barcelona. In the 2013 Confederations Cup and 2014 World Cup, he was a member of the Spain team alongside Azpi.
Xavi has spoken to him several times about his desire to bring him to Camp Nou. He admires Azpi's adaptability and professionalism, and believes he can serve as a role model for young people.
Sport says Azpi will wait and see how things go. He does not want to force his way out, but he is intrigued by Xavi's scheme.
