Karim Benzema has eclipsed Thierry Henry's long-standing French record, becoming France's all-time best goalscorer after scoring a brace for Real Madrid on Monday.

Karim Benzema's season is only getting better, as the Real Madrid legend has now surpassed Thierry Henry as the all-time highest French goalscorer.

On Monday, the Frenchman scored twice late in the game to add to Vinicius Junior's second-half goal and give Madrid a 3-0 win against Real Mallorca in La Liga.

After his double against Mallorca, Benzema has now eclipsed Henry's long-standing record of 411 goals, expanding Madrid's lead at the top of La Liga to ten points.

And, at his current rate, Benzema might add a lot more to his already-record-breaking total.

On Monday, Karim Benzema broke Thierry Henry's goal scoring record.

Even though Benzema is 34 years old, the Frenchman has aged like a great wine, generating his finest attacking return for Madrid in any of his 13 seasons, and it's just March.

After scoring a hat-trick last week to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League, the Madrid striker is spearheading their success this season. He single-handedly overturned a two-goal deficit.

Benzema has already scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in La Liga this season, surpassing his previous highest total attacking return of 32 in a Madrid shirt, with ten games remaining.

They are also anticipated to make a serious Champions League push, as their performance against PSG sent a message to the rest of the competition that they are still a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

PSG was knocked out of the Champions League by Karim Benzema on his own.

Benzema's record is even more astounding given his five-and-a-half-year hiatus from the French national team owing to off-the-field issues, as well as his absence from two international tournaments.

As a result, it's all the more astonishing that he's surpassed Henry's record of 411 goals at the age of 34, and it raises the question of how many more he could have scored if he hadn't been cut from the French national team.

Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 for £30 million after leaving Lyon in France, and he has won three La Liga crowns and four Champions League trophies during his time there.

Benzema appears to be a lock for a fourth La Liga title this season, and if Madrid pull off an upset in the Champions League this year, he will join Cristiano Ronaldo as the only player to win the competition five times.

Only Francisco Gento has won more European cups, but since the Champions League was restructured, only Ronaldo has five titles, but his former Madrid team-mate might join him on the podium.

Benzema added to his amazing trophy collection by helping France win the Nations League, and they could have used him in the 2016 European Championship final, which they lost to Portugal.

The Frenchman is proof that age is just a number, and at the Santiago Bernabeu, Benzema appears as skilled as ever.
