Eduardo Camavinga joined Real Madrid from Rennes during the summer transfer window. Born in Angola to Congolese parents, the 19-year-old midfielder moved to France with his family when he was two years old and broke into Rennes' first team at the age of 16.
Camavinga, an educated and diligent midfielder, has had limited playing time this season due to the intense competition in midfield at the Santiago Bernabeu, but his quality and potential are undeniable. Already a full French international, he's proven to be a capable stand-in for Casemiro, Toni Kroos, or Luka Modric when one of Carlo Ancelotti's midfield trio is out.
Camavinga is working hard to improve his Spanish and is anxious to make his mark on the history of Real Madrid, Europe's most famous and glamorous club. It's something he's always done; it's been a part of his personality since he was a kid.
"Camavinga told OneFootball in an exclusive interview that he has been a very observant person since he was a child. "You must, without a doubt, learn from the finest. All of the top players, such as [Zinedine] Zidane, Ronaldinho, and others... There are a lot of fantastic players. Also [Paul] Pogba." As a football player, I believe the first lesson you learn is that the game is harsh. You can also be at the top and fast descend. You must be constant; you cannot afford to make any errors." I am really critical of myself. Even if I had a good game, if I committed any errors, I'll remember those errors. After that, I'll either talk about them or watch myself after the game. I have an app that will show you everything. However, I prefer to watch the game myself before talking to my agent about it. "Apart from that, I'm keeping a close eye on myself." I'm hoping to learn a lot tactically from Casemiro, who is playing here. Casemiro tells me to play simply and efficiently before games when I first start. Luka and Toni are the others. I learn from the trio because I can play in all three midfield positions, and I need to learn from everyone in order to be ready when the coach puts me on the field." Camavinga has faced difficulty before and is appreciative for the opportunities he has because of his parents' sacrifices. He was born in an Angolan refugee camp while his parents were fleeing unrest in Kinshasa, where their home was burned down in 2013, resulting in the loss of most of their belongings. "They didn't always talk to us about difficulties," Camavinga said. "However, as I grew older, we discussed their difficulties." However, I didn't always notice it on a daily basis. However, now that I think about it, I see that we did have some difficulties. The fact that all of this occurred in my life is, in my opinion, a wonderful thing. I will always be courteous to my parents since I am aware of how much we have been through. Always. Because it is because of them that I am who I am today.
"I'd like to be remembered as someone who never gives up and is always there." A decent individual who has won numerous trophies. A fantastic footballer who wore the uniform with pride and scored a lot of goals and provided a lot of assists."
