HARRY MAGUIRE IS THE ONLY 'NATURAL LEADER' IN MAN UNITED DRESSING ROOM, SAYS RED DEVILS LEGEND

According to Gary Pallister, Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is a "natural leader" for the Red Devils and will "return to his very best."

After United paid a world-record amount for a defender in 2019, the 29-year-old England centre-back came at Old Trafford with big expectations on his shoulders.

Maguire, who joined United for £80 million from Leicester City, was promoted to captaincy within six months of his arrival.

Following the transfer of Ashley Young to Inter Milan in January 2020, former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed the ex-Leicester player the captain's armband.

Maguire has been chastised for his poor form and performances for Manchester United this season.

With recent claims suggesting a 'power struggle' in the United dressing room, the defender has faced rising requests to be stripped of his club captaincy.

Despite conceding that England international Maguire is "not in the best of form," Pallister has defended Maguire in his role as United captain.

The 56-year-old United star, on the other hand, believes Maguire can reclaim his "very best" form and form a crucial relationship with Raphael Varane in the future.

"There's no getting away from the fact he's not in the best of form," He played well against Tottenham, in my opinion.

"The own goal occurred at an inopportune time, but that happens even to the finest players; it's simply a fluke."

"People say he hasn't done this or that, but I believe he's been United's natural leader in recent seasons."

"Up until this season, I think he's been quite good in a United shirt." I believe he will return to his greatest form, and that he and [Raphael] Varane will form the back-up tandem in the future.

"There are a number of reasons why Harry's form has dipped, but he's been quite decent overall, and he's the only one who appears to be the natural leader in the dressing room."

"That appears to be a major issue for United. I've played on teams with four or five captains, and I don't see too many natural leaders with that character, and when things get tough in games, those characters can lead you through those moments, and we don't have those kinds of leaders on the pitch right now."
