A manhunt has been initiated for David Wanyonyi Simiyu, who is accused of stealing two video cameras and their accessories from a Nairobi church.

Simiyu was saved on Sunday, March 6, 2022, in the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Zimmerman Parish, according to reports.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, March 12, Simiyu took the media equipment on the same day that the faithful were praying and sold it to unscrupulous traders.

"Detectives have recovered two video cameras and their attachments that were stolen from a city-based Church last Sunday while the service was in progress," the statement added.

"As the faithful were deep in prayer, two professional cameras costing close to Sh1 million vanished from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Zimmerman Parish."

"It wasn't until after the service that the church orderlies realized the cameras were missing, much to the dismay of the congregation and clergy."

"Our detectives and sleuths from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau were immediately contacted by the Church leadership and took up the case." It didn't take long for the renowned crime fighters to identify the perpetrator.

Detectives discovered that the mastermind behind the disappearance was a recent convert who had received salvation in the Church, following extensive investigations.

Trans-Nzoia county's David Wanyonyi Simiyu stole the equipment and sold it to unscrupulous traders in Nairobi's Imenti business area.

The suspects who acquired the equipment were identified thanks to forensic examination and monitoring done by the DCI mobile laboratory in Nairobi's Central Business District.

In DCI's new way of doing business, the three Joshua Mulei, Douglas Karanja, and Stephen Thuo, who traffic in stolen electronic equipment, were unmasked electronically through forensics. The suspects were also found with the two cameras and their accessories.

The three is being held at Muthaiga police station while detectives continue their search for the main thug, David Simiyu.
